About AS/400 Software Pricing
A structured, machine-readable IBM i software economics reference for AS/400 and IBM i buyers.
AS/400 Software Pricing is a software-economics-specific deep-dive built as part of the AS400Software.com family of IBM i research sites, paired with pricing.as400system.com's hardware-focused coverage. Where the hardware side answers 'what does the box cost,' this site answers the harder question: what does the software running on it actually cost, over its full life -- license tier, SWMA or subscription, HA/DR, implementation, and every renewal in between.
Our approach
Every figure on this site traces to a cited source: IBM's own announcement letters, IT Jungle's published analysis of IBM's pricing changes, or published reseller data from Midland Information Systems where noted. Where a real number is not publicly available -- most third-party HA/DR and security vendors do not publish list pricing -- we say so plainly and explain the pricing model instead of guessing a figure.
The Software Value Index
Our Software Value Index is built by this site, not IBM, using IBM's own published bundle price and claimed entitlement value figures. It is disclosed as our own analysis throughout, not represented as an official IBM metric.
Portfolio
This site is part of a wider portfolio of independently operated IBM i, AS/400, and Power research properties, including AS400Software.com and the hardware-focused pricing.as400system.com.
